Devils Sign Lithuanian Defenceman

The Red Devils are delighted to announce that Lithuanian defenceman Ruslan Cernych has been signed for the 2019 NZIHL season. The 23-year-old 6’6” right-shooter defenceman will add maturity, experience and size to the Devils’ defensive core.

Prior to joining Devils, Ruslan spent the past season in the British National Ice Hockey League with Milton Keynes Thunder and Nottingham Lions.

Outside of his UK experience, Ruslan has spent time professionally playing in Spain and Holland, also having five appearances for Lithuania National Team in the Baltic Cup.

Head Coach Anatoly Khorozov said, “Ruslan is a smooth skating defenseman who covers a lot of ice with his reach and he makes quick and smart plays with the puck in the defensive zone plus he has a heavy shot from the point. We’re excited to have him.”
