The Canterbury Red Devils are excited to reveal that Latvian defenseman Vlad Balakuns is our first import signed for the 2018 season.

His career started in the Latvian league and includes 2 seasons played in Finland as well as a season in each Belarus and Ukraine. Vlad has also played at the 2006 IIHF U18 World Championship Div 1 where his home country Latvia won a gold.

Balakuns is a solid stay-home D man, and club coach Anatoly Khorozov is delighted with the capture and declared “Vlad will be able to add maturity, experience and size to our defensive core as well as a high level of skill”.
