Red Devils’ Foreign Legion
Feb 14, 2012 – We have all heard about importance of foreign players coming to play ice hockey for the Red Devils but there is little knowledge that the reverse is true as well. Our homegrown talent also heads overseas to play in the domestic leagues of more traditional ice hockey nations. So their achievements don’t go unrecognized, we would like to take the opportunity to highlight a few your Canterbury players honing their skills around the world.

Chicago Hitmen, NA3HL Junior “A” hockey team
We practice three times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Play games mostly on Fridays and Saturdays, sometimes 3 game weekends. Every other weekend we will be away which consists 5-8 hour bus rides; team provides hotel accommodations and per diem for food. The league has 2 showcase weekends where we played 4 games in 4 days and there will be playoffs to decide league champion and who moves on to the National Tournament.
We've played 37 games so far with 18 wins 17 losses 1 OT loss, 1 Shootout loss. We are currently 11th out of 16 teams sitting one point of 10th.
Stefan Speck
HC Seewen, 2nd Liga
I am currently playing for EHC Seewen in central Switzerland. The team is classified as amateur however there are several players that have played National A and National B which are the professional leagues here in Switzerland. The majority of the team has also played Elite Junior, which is the highest level of Junior hockey.
Our team trains 3 times a week and has 1 game each weekend, usually on a Saturday. We have a 22 game season followed by play offs which involve a quarter final, semi-final and final, all of which are best of 5 series.
We are currently in first place after 21 regular season games and on our way to achieving promotion to 1st Liga.
Jaxson Lane
MAC Nepstadion, Budapest, Hungary U18 league.
I am currently in Budapest playing the 2011/12 season. We train 5-7 nights (on ice and off) a week depending on the game schedule. We train on both indoor and an outdoor rink, which is challenging at times when the temperature has dropped to -23 degrees.
Our games are played all around Hungary but mainly in Budapest. Any away games we travel by bus which can be anywhere from 1 to 8 hours away. The league has 10 teams in total coming from Hungary, Serbia and Romania. So far the team has played 23 games and we are 2nd in the league.
This season we've played two exhibition games against the Serbian U18 National Team. We won both and will play another two exhibition games against the NZU18 team later this the season in Austria.
