Red Devils

The Canterbury Red Devils play in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League (NZIHL) which was formed in 2005. Located in Christchurch, the Red Devils are the 2009 and 2012 NZIHL Champions and finalists in 2007 and 2008. With our already strong contribution to NZ ice hockey, we as a team aim to be the best ever national league side as well as the stronghold for our national rep teams.

The league showcases the top hockey talent New Zealand has to offer with each team supported by a limited amount of overseas players to improve the level of play and in doing so, improve the individual play of New Zealand born players. Each team is allowed to dress 4 import players per game however there is no limit as to the number they can carry on a roster. We have been lucky enough to secure players from Canada, USA, Sweden, Ukraine and Czech Republic.

The Red Devils is self-funded team by primarily student athletes. In order to help offset costs, teams can use fundraising and sponsorship. As a result of these efforts, in 2011, the Red Devils were able to reduce fees to $300nzd.
